The Opportunity
We are seeking a high-performing, analytically rigorous, scientifically skilled and commercially minded individual to join TIAP as a Manager, Technology & Venture Development. This role is ideal for someone who can critically assess early-stage scientific ideas and help determine whether they can become venture-backable companies.
Key Responsibilities
In collaboration with other members of the TIAP team, the Manager, Technology & Venture Development shall lead and drive the following:
1. Early-Stage Scientific Assessment
- Evaluate early-stage innovations for strength of data, technical feasibility, novelty and translational potential
- Identify key value inflection experiments and data required to de-risk technologies
- Exercise sound judgment in prioritizing opportunities with incomplete data
- Translate complex scientific concepts into clear commercial and investment narratives
2. Investment Diligence
- Lead end-to-end evaluation of new opportunities across therapeutics, MedTech and digital health
- Conduct deep scientific, clinical, regulatory, market, and competitive diligence
- Develop investment theses, commercialization strategies, and go/no-go recommendations
- Build financial models and assess capital requirements and return potential
3. Venture Creation & Company Building
- Work with founders and researchers to help shape company formation strategy
- Develop business plans, pitch decks, and financing strategies
- Support structuring of NewCo formation, capitalization, and early financing
4. Portfolio & Project Management
- Lead development and execution of technology development plans, budgets, and milestones
- Actively manage a portfolio of projects to drive progress toward commercialization
- Identify emerging trends and opportunities to help support project evaluation and investment
5. Relationship Development & Management
- Develop strong relationships with principal investigators and institutional partners
- Provide technology development and commercialization guidance and feedback to researchers
- Interface with investors and strategic partners to position opportunities for financing
- Participate in industry and investor meetings to represent the TIAP portfolio
Educational and Technical Requirements
- Post-graduate technical degree in the Life Sciences (PhD preferred)
- MBA or other relevant business education, training or experience is an asset
- Project management experience and proficiency
- Excellent computer, analytical, creative problem-solving and organizational skills
- Strong financial analysis and modeling skills
- Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate scientific literature and experimental data
- Previous experiences in advancing academic innovations to commercialization in life sciences
- Proficiency with licensing, financing and venture creation agreements
- Experience with new venture creation and business planning
- Minimum of 5 years of practical work experience related to majority of requirements listed above
Personal Requirements:
- Excellent oral and written communication presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to deal with confidential material and sensitive issues with discretion
- Clear and effective presentation skills
- Must possess an ability to work effectively both independently and as a part of a team
- Ability to thrive in a challenging and fluid work environment
- Ability to work in a hybrid (virtual and in-person) work schedule in Toronto

Compensation
$90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
